Pets are present in many homes. These little buddies are almost like a part of the family, as they bring in so much joy and happiness to everyone. But having pets isn’t all about the laughter, fun, and excitement. Accidents concerning pets are always inevitable. And by accident, we mean those pee or poo-related instances where you could only sigh and make a move immediately before the smell and the stains get worse.

The most common place where these ‘accidents’ happen is on the carpet. Yes, in that wide and thick piece in the house and is undoubtedly one of the hardest to clean. Animal urine could easily go unnoticed especially if it has been around for long. You’ll just suddenly smell a foul odor and would even have a hard time looking for that specific place where the urine is.

There are pet odor removers available in the market, but aside from being costly, it will also just mask the smell of urine temporarily, but doesn’t really remove it completely. When this happens, this will also attract your pets to go back to that same spot and cause an accident again, since they can still smell their urine odor.

But worry no more; there are plenty of ways you can choose from to remove these pet urine odor and stains by using natural ingredients and those that are found in your kitchen.

The first step in removing pet odor and stains would be locating that exact spot where the urine is. One way to locate the urinated spot would be using the black light. Body fluids from pets contain phosphorus, and black light emits ultraviolet rays that will make phosphorus glow. Lights should be turned off, close the curtains and make sure that it will be very dark so the black light can be more effective. Any urine or biological matter from your pets will glow once it is located by the black light.

After successfully locating the problematic area, prepare the tools that are needed for removing and cleaning the odor and stains, as well as deodorizing and removing any stain left. You will need these materials:

– Rubber gloves

– Paper towels

– ¼ to ½ cup baking soda

– ¼ to ½ cup household strength (3%) hydrogen peroxide

Here are the steps to remove urine, odor, and stains:

1. Mix a cup of water and a cup of vinegar in a bowl. This solution will be used to remove the urine.

2. Blot up the urine using the paper towels. Make sure to absorb as much of the urine as possible.

3. Using the water and vinegar mixture, spray small amounts into the urinated spot, making sure that it really seeps in, then scrub slowly and carefully using a scrub brush or old toothbrush.

4. Blot up the water and vinegar mixture in the carpet. You can also use a wet/dry vacuum cleaner or steam cleaner to extract the liquid properly.

5. When the cleaned area is almost dry, sprinkle baking soda on the stain.

6. With rubber gloves on, slowly put some of the peroxide directly into the stain.

7. Blot up all the liquid once the foam dies down, using the paper towels.

8. Let the spot dry.

9. Finish it off by vacuuming thoroughly to remove any residue left.

Natural Homemade Cleaners to remove pet stains odors

To create a homemade deodorizer to freshen up a room, mix clean filtered water and a few drops of essential oil onto a spray bottle. This can then sprayed around the house, especially on curtains and furniture.  Also, another way to add a nice smell to the room while cleaning is to add a scented dryer sheet in your vacuum canister. This will help keep odors from escaping the vacuum.

For pet owners, you can also use some tips to control odor and stains caused by your furry friends. Always wash pet beddings regularly. Pet dander and hairs are found in these beddings, and if not cleaned for days, it will surely cause unwanted odor. You should also vacuum on a daily basis, especially in areas where your pet sleeps or stays the most. Absorbents are very useful for pet owners, and these should be put in areas where you think your pet would most likely cause an accident. And the most important thing is, you should clean pet accidents completely and immediately. Urine would smell worse as it stays longer on any surface, so make sure to clean it right away. You can also do some measures to prevent the accidents from repeating by walking your pet regularly, changing litter boxes, and keeping your pets away from areas where they have caused an accident before, or where they could possibly urinate or even defecate.
